An electric fence of one or more wires insulated from soil and connected to the electric fencer. The voltage gap between the wire and the ground causes a disgusting but harmless discharge. A good ground connection is essential in order to get an efficient fence. It depends of soil conductivity. |

One Wire Fence For a wet soil (good electricity conductor). |

Two Wires Fence For dry or rocky soils. The second wire allows efficient grounding. |

We need proper electrodes. There are two kinds:
|
|
The minimum length is 1.5 meters. The electrode must reach wet ground. Minimum distance between electrodes must be 3 meters. |

The maximum electric resistance must be 100 ohms.
|
|
A electric storm can destroy our fence or electric fencer if we don't install lightning rods. |

| Without lightning rod, the ray current goes trough the fencer, destroying it. | The lightning rod deviates the ray current and protects the fencer. If a ray hits the lighning rod, you must replace it. |
|
The right picture explains the installation of a ligthning rod for a battery-operated fencer. The bottom picture depicts installation for a main supply operated fencer |

| We often must connects the fence to the fencer (or another fence) through long distances or gaps. |
| If you choose an aereal connection, you must leave 5 meters from the wire to the ground. |

An underground connection must be encapsulated in a plastic tube. Mind that 10 meters of underground connection equals to 1km of fence. |
|
We must respect security distances in any case. The right picture depicts the distances for an electrical installation <500V. |

Every animal determines the measures of the electric fences. Mind also wire polarity. |

| We
must follow this advices if we want to install an efficient fence. Insulators must be placed at the side of the posts, not at the top. |

At corners, we must place the elements in the following order: insulator-tensor-side connector. |
| The wire must jump tensors in linear connections. |

The handler must be mounted this way. |

An efficient fence has all proper materials, good knots and anchorages and the correct polarity. |

| Voltage measuring can be done using digital or analogic voltimeters. In any cases, we must connecte the voltimeter between the wire and the soil. |

You can use your own body to detect electric current in a safe way. Touch the ground with a hand and the wire using a grass leaf. |
